Walsh Choir wants YOU!!!

Don’t know how to sing? That’s OK! I am here to teach you.

Don’t know how to read music? That’s OK! You’ll learn in choir!

As a member of the Wildcat Choirs,

 you will prepare and perform music

 on a fall, winter,

and spring concert.

If you are a 6th grader-

Your choir will sing at the RRISD 6th Grade Choral Festival in December and a Spring Choral Festival Competition in May. You will have the opportunity to try out for solos and sing in a 6th grade Solo & Ensemble Contest.Walsh hosts its own 6th grade contest to prepare you for your 7th and 8th grade years in Walsh Choirs. Choir members also have the opportunity to take private voice lessons during the school day!

The 6th grade “Walsh Boys” will learn special music to perform with the 7th and 8th grade Men’s Chorus, as well as attend “Guys Night Out” where we will all watch Football and different Sports games on the big screen in the choir room. 

The 6th grade girls “Wildcat Choir” will have the opportunity to sing with the 7th and 8th grade Varsity Girls choir, as well as earn a “Pajama Party” as reward for a job well done!

As a member of the Wildcat Choirs, you will have the opportunity to try out for Varsity Choirs in May. All other 6th graders have to wait a year before they can try out for those groups.

If you are a 7th or 8th grader-

You will get a chance to go with other choir and theatre students to the Renaissance Festival where you will hear choirs sing Renaissance style music in a historic replica of its original time period.

All 7th and 8th grade choirs will have an opportunity to audition for the Middle School All-Region Choir, as well as compete at UIL Solo and Ensemble competition in January.

All 7th and 8th grade choirs will compete at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Competition in the Spring , while at the same time earning an opportunity to celebrate at the Choir Spring Trip at the end of the school year!

The Men's Chorus will spend time together at "Guys Night Out" where we will watch UT or Cowboy football games on the big screen in the choir room.

The Women's Choirs will have the opportunity to attend Musicals at the Long Center and spend time together at "Pajama Parties" on special evenings in the choir room.

Yes, we have athletes, cheer leaders, band students, orchestra students, and theater students in choir.

 We all work together to make Walsh the best middle school possible.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I have to know how to sing or read music?

Not at all!  The purpose of choir is to help you LEARN how to sing and how to read music.  These are things we practice and work on every day.

Does it cost money to be in choir?

There are some costs, but they are very small and we do fund-raising to pay for most of our activities. 

Are there performances outside of school?

We have many performances outside of school.  Our concerts are usually in the Walsh Cafeteria.  We also travel outside of the district to festivals and competitions.

How do I audition to be in an advanced choir?

Auditions for Varisty Choirs will be this spring.  Come by the choir room or contact Mrs. Ja to sign up for a time.

I already sing in the shower, why should I join choir?

Singing in choir can give you benefits that solo "shower" singing cannot.  In choir you will learn how to sing in harmony and how to work together with your friends to make beautiful sounds. 

How do I sign up?

Mark your choice sheet when you register for classes.  We will take it from there!  Sign up with a friend and have twice as much fun!

How often will I go to my elective course?

            Choir will meet everyday, during the day, just like math, science, and history….

How much after school time is required for 6^th grade Choir?

            There are no required after school rehearsals for 6^th graders.  We may have a rehearsal before fall, winter and spring concerts that beginning students are expected to attend.
